The Goldwing remains Honda’s most pristine touring model with its unique ability to make long-distance travel a truly rewarding and enjoyable experience. Launched as the GL1000 in 1975 its horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine was not only physically different, it felt very different with a silky output perfect for long days in the saddle. A six-cylinder, 1500cc overhaul in 1987 saw the Goldwing once again state its intent and purpose to benchmark the ultimate touring machine. Over 40 years of development has moulded the new-generation Goldwing, a superb touring experience for rider and passenger.

Turn signals

You’ll notice that the Goldwing’s front turn signals are integrated into the rear-view mirrors and use three LEDs each. The rear LED turn signals are built into the tail- and brake-light assembly for a clean, integrated look. Best of all, they’re self-cancelling.

Hill start assist

Both the Goldwing and Goldwing Tour models feature Hill Start Assist (HSA). This feature momentarily holds your motorcycle’s position on inclines after you’ve released the brakes and before you apply the throttle, eliminating any roll-back drama. It’s a great convenience when starting from a stop on a hill.

Smart key

Your new Goldwing features an electronic smart key. When the key is in close proximity (say, in your jacket pocket), you can just hop on, press a button, and ride off. An “answer back” feature lets you find your bike in the dark or in crowded rally parking.

Integrated starter generator

Most cars and motorcycles have separate starters and alternators. Not your new Goldwing. We’ve combined the starter and alternator into one assembly that’s light and compact. It’s part of the Goldwing’s overall weight-savings program, and you’ll hear the difference the first time you press the start button.

Low speed reverse & walking mode

The Goldwing and Goldwing Tour feature “Walking Mode,” which lets you creep forward and reverse at a walking pace just by operating the buttons on the left handle switch. Think how easy it will be to get in and out of tight parking spots with a fully loaded bike.

LED lighting

All Goldwing models feature a complete LED lighting package. The headlights, the taillights and every bit of instrumentation is LED. LEDs not only last longer but they’re also lighter and run cooler. Accessory LED lighting for your Goldwing includes optional fog lamps, an additional brake light that integrates into the upper portion of the Goldwing Tour’s trunk, and lights for inside the trunk and saddlebags that automatically illuminate when the luggage is opened.

Performance

Powerful engine

The horizontally-opposed, 1,833cc six-cylinder engine punches out an arm-tugging 170Nm of torque @ 5,500rpm – it’s the heart of the Honda Goldwing. The Goldwing’s engine uses four-valve, Unicam® cylinder head design, improves engine performance and fuel efficiency.

7-speed automatic Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT)

Honda’s revolutionary DCT will transform your riding experience. It eliminates clutch levers, stalling, and the need for you to shift, while also giving you complete control to select gears if you want to. DCT also allows you to focus more on your riding line, braking points, cornering and acceleration. Further benefits include reduced fatigue, low stress urban riding, and best of all, lets you focus on the most rewarding parts of your ride.

Double-wall exhaust pipes

You may think this is just for cosmetics, but on a hot day single-wall exhaust pipes can throw off a lot of heat. The Goldwing’s twin-wall design keeps things cooler. Plus, this is the best sounding Goldwing we’ve ever built!

Fuel efficiency

Combining light weight with the bike’s engine, intake system and four-valve design, the Goldwing’s fuel economy is really impressive. Want to really squeeze the last mile out of every drop? Try the “Econ” ride mode setting.

Cruise control

Goldwing engines offer a wide range of user-friendly power and you can even choose between four ride modes (Tour, Sport, Rain and Econ). Each mode varies power output and DCT shift points. The selected mode also changes suspension damping on the Goldwing Tour.

Handling

Double wishbone front suspension

One glance and your attention will immediately go to the Goldwing’s radical, Honda-engineered double-wishbone front suspension. The innovative design changes the path the wheel travels through the suspension stroke and that lets us move both the engine and the rider/passenger closer to the front wheel. You get more room, and stellar handling. The light, all-aluminium die-cast beam frame provides confidence-inspiring stability with geometry that delivers agile handling and that double wishbone suspension system is responsible for supple bump absorption and sharp steering accuracy.

Compact frame

This latest generation all-aluminium frame is significantly lighter and more compact than previous editions. State-of-the-art die-casting lets us fine-tune chassis rigidity, giving you both a smooth ride and precise handling.

Swing arm and rear suspension

Using our proprietary single-sided Pro Arm® design, the aluminium swingarm still houses the Goldwing’s shaft drive. The swingarm links to the frame using a patented pivot structure that both increases stiffness and reduces weight. You get responsive handling and a smoother ride.

Anti-lock brakes

Have to make a hard stop, fully loaded and two up? All of our Goldwing’s are equipped with combined anti-lock brakes for excellent stopping power under a wide variety of road and traction conditions.

Ride modes

Goldwing engines offer a wide range of user-friendly power and you can even choose between four ride modes (Tour, Sport, Rain, and Econ). Each mode varies power output depending on the mode selected. On the Goldwing Tour models, it also changes suspension damping and the shift points on the DCT models.

Low center of gravity

It’s not just how much a motorcycle weighs; it’s how it distributes that weight. Thanks to their horizontally opposed engines, Goldwing’s have always offered a low centre of gravity. That’s a huge benefit in handling and it makes the bike feel lighter and easier to manoeuvre.

Electronic suspension preload

The Goldwing Tour model’s suspension features four electronically adjustable modes for varying loads. You can select (1) Rider, (2) Rider with loaded bags, (3) Rider and passenger, and (4) Rider and passenger with loaded bags.

Radial front brake calipers

The brake callipers on the Goldwing are mounted similarly to that of our World Champion RC213V MotoGP race bike. Why? The stiffer mounting reduces calliper flex and improves brake power and feel.

Electronics

Honda Selectable Torque Control

The Goldwing Tour has standard Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), that constantly monitors your bike’s rear-wheel speed, and adjusts torque instantly. It’s a great feature when riding in the rain, on sandy, gritty roads, over wet leaves, or anywhere else where surface conditions can compromise traction.

Throttle by wire

The throttle-by-wire system enables the Goldwing Tour’s Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), and also the four ride modes available on every model.

You can also connect an Android phone using Android Auto. That means you can access Google Assistant, use navigation tools like Google Maps, Waze, and more. Plus, with both systems, you’ll have access to weather, playlists, music-streaming services and telephone numbers.

Available Bluetooth®*2-enabled wireless headsets let you communicate more easily than ever.

Electric windscreen

The Goldwing’s windscreen is electrically controlled, moving both up and down over an 125mm range for the Goldwing Tour (105mm for the Goldwing), and it changes its angle as it raises and lowers. Plus, it automatically remembers the last setting. As you sit closer to the windscreen, it has a narrower, lower, more sporting profile, yet still offers excellent protection.

Human machine interface

Ever have to scroll through some abstract menu to access a feature on your electronic device? You’ll find plenty of simple, dedicated switches and controls on your Goldwing’s handlebars, ergonomically placed, which give you simple, intuitive control inputs that zero out frustration. There is also a centralized control knob in the console similar to modern autos.

Tyre pressure monitoring system

Correct tyre inflation is a necessity for safe, economical motorcycling and it’s especially critical with a touring bike, because of the varying loads. The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) automatically warns you of low tyre pressure on all Goldwing models. On Goldwing Tour models, including a readout of the actual front and rear pressure in PSI is a premium touch.

Advanced meters

The Goldwing’s cockpit meters are information central. In addition to the basics like vehicle and engine speed, loading configuration, ride mode, fuel level, engine temperature and dual tripmeters, you can also monitor outside air temperature, cruise control speed, heater levels and even selected apps linked through CarPlay® or Android Auto.

Comfort

Ideal fairing for touring

Back in the 1980s, the Goldwing was the first bike to introduce full-coverage fairings as original equipment and this latest one is one of our best. It offers excellent wind and weather protection, yet is trimmer and more aerodynamic than our previous models. It also flows more air through refined ducting, helping keep you cooler on hot summer days.

Passenger grab handle

By using counterbalancing elements on two axes, Honda’s engineers can cancel out both primary and coupling vibrations from the engine. The result is that we can mount the engine solidly for superior strength and handling, yet you still get an extraordinarily smooth, vibration-free ride.
